Hmm

This is new addition to my ongoing series “Art Lovers”

This one is also at the San Diego Art Museum. The exhibition Title is Experiments in Abstraction Art in Southern California, 1945 to 1980.

This person is looking at Wayne Thiebaud ‘s painting.Hmm

Wayne Thiebaud is one of my favor artists.

I think I saw his works at the De Young Museum in 1980’s. Back then I was focused in Printmaking. I always like Graphical works. But about painting I was so fascinated Super realism.

Now I watched YuTube of Wayne Thiebaud’s works and interviews. I’m very interested in his way capture and simplify things and landscapes, and his color. It’s absolutely stunning.

This painting is in the Auction.

What is the next?

I was away from my studio.

Now I’m back.

I did Demo of Watermixable Oil for Clairmont Art Guild in San Diego.

It was rainy day, but many people came to the meeting.

They were good audience. They were very interested in what I’m doing and they asked good questions. The president told me that it was very successful Demo. I’m so glad that they enjoyed , so I did too.

I was in San Diego, so I went to San Diego Museum of Art.

I’m not interested in this kind of Modern Art. But I like this person’s gesture. To me her body language says like “ Well, What is the next?”What is the next ?This painting is in Auction.

I got a good comment “Captures the whole “gestalt” – even without a face…” on Facebook of http://www.facebook.com/dailypaintworks.

I always try to leave a room for audience to continue a story of my painting.

Purple Statics by the Beach

Purple Statics by the Beach

It was in spring at the La Jolla coast.

It was a SDAI Paint Out day. It was a fogy and windy morning. Only a few people showed up for painting.

I was late to get there, and then I took time to find spot for painting. After Paint Out group’s painters left, finally I sat my easel. Then fog was breaking, and blue sky appeared. The color of sand at the La Jolla coast is very light color and Purple Statics were blooming all over the beach. It was overwhelming.

This painting also was accepted to the Juried Show “The 2nd Annual SDAI Plein Air Show” at Museum of Living Artist/ San Diego Institute at the BalboaPark.

I felt so honored to be part of the show.

Sunny Sunset Cliff

Sunny Sunset CliffI painted this painting “Sunny Sunset Cliff” at Sunset Cliff in San Diego with San Diego Institute paint out group. It was a beautiful sunny morning.

After I moved San Diego in 2009, I joined this group.

It’s free to join this group. Any media, all level artists paint at the same location and same time. Several remarkable artists came to paint with us. The Fist Saturday of a month, 9am-noon. Around noon we did qutique each other.

It’s great way to learn from other artists.

I took Painting classes from Bill Martin (http://www.guidetooilpainting.com/) 1991-1993. Bill Martin was a great surrealism painter and instructor. When I was taking his class, several professional artists were taking/in his classes. I learned from them as well.

This painting was accepted to the Juried Show “The 2nd Annual SDAI Plein Air Show” at Museum of Living Artist/ San Diego Institute at the BalboaPark.

I felt so honored to be part of the show.

Purple Flowers in The Garden

This is a part of Glendeven Inn, Little River, CA. Their website is http://www.glendeven.com/

Purple Flowers in The Garden

Their setting is so charming. Ocean View, several Lamas are living and beautiful gardens.A House with Purple Rhododendron

They serve eggs from their chicken for breakfast.

Previous owner was fine wood worker. He worked on these buildings with his nice tasty sense. And it had a gallery. My paintings were in the Glendeven gallery. I was so honor to be part of it. They let me have my solo show in 1995.

He quitted to run the galley. And he sold the inn.

Right before I moved to San Diego in 2009. The New owner came to me, and he wants to show my works at the Wine tasting room, which used be the Glendeven Gallery. Now he is showing my works there. I’m very happy that my paintings are in a nice space.A Trail from The Beach

Their selection of wine is excellent. Some of them, you can’t buy from a store. They serve wine with special hors d’Å“uvre.

I love this Inn. Who grew up in a city, dreams to live in a country like this.

The last summer, I painted several oil paintings around Glendeven inn.http://www.mariko-irie.com/trailfrombeach.html

I love to paint interior of rooms as well.

I’m going to have my solo show at the Northcoast Artists Gallery in Fort Bragg, March 2nd-April 3rd.

Maybe you reserve a room at the Glendeven, and come to see my show.

Who is Coming?

I’m going to San Diego to do Demo of Water Mixable Oil Painting for the Clairemont Art Guild on Jan. 21st.

So I started to think about San Diego as preparing for the Demo.

I love San Diego beach scene with people. Because the temperature is warm, so people are relaxing, having fun and enjoying the sun.

All my paintings of peoplescapes at beach are in San Diego.

At first I was attracted to two beach parasols, then I saw the man’s hut and then empty chair.Who is coming?

If you are a member of the Clairemont Art Guild, I hope to see you there.

Over the Puddle

When I’m passing Pataluma CA on Hwy 101 from north, I feel if I were in England. I have never been in England. My knowledge of England is only from photos and movies.

Always I wanted to get off Hwy 101 to cruse in Pataluma. Finally I did it.Over the Puddle

This painting “Over the Puddle” came out very nice. I love it.

I’m always fascinated in funky old fence, big field and far a way fog on the foot of beautiful mountains.

Elk

Elk is south from Mendocino CA.

I lived in Mendocino for twenty-seven years. But I didn’t go to Elk so often.

The last spring, when I visited Mendocino Coast, I just started to drive to south.

I saw these rocks/islands. I parked and painted. It was very windy day. A lot of sunny days, it’s very windy at the Mendocino Coast.  So I made my car to be my windshield. It worked very well.Elk

When this painting was displaying at the Northcoast Artists Gallery in Fort Bragg,

My friend photographer, Jon Klein told me that a lot of people photographed these rocks. But we don’t know the name of these rocks. We think that they must have name/names.

If you know their names, please let me know.

Walking for Shopping

This Scene was right before Xmas.

Before Xmas, everybody is busy, walking faster.

Or gathering around.Walking for Shopping

Some people wear a heavy jacket and wool scarf, but some people wear only T-shirt.

It’s in Californian scene, isn’t it?

It’s very interested in me, who was born and raised in Japan.

I think that people think very freely in California.

I remember when I was in High school, a girl pointed other girl and Laughed at her, because she was wearing cotton shirt in winter. At that time I couldn’t understand what is wrong about it.

Later I found there is a Japanese tradition, which is called “Koromogae”.

It started as court function in Heian period (AC700- 1185).

They changed clothing April 1st through September 30 for summer clothing and October 1st through March 31 for winter clothing.

Edo period (AC 1603 – 1868) it is established a system, changing cloths for four times a year for Samurai’s rank. Then Citizen was followed.

Meiji period, 1873 they established a law which Western style uniform for a government official, military and a policeman, from Komono style uniform. And changing uniform on June 1st through Sept. 30 for summer one and Oct.1st through May 31 for winter one. Student uniform is same way even now.

Koromogae of Kimono is four times a year.

My father graduated the university. He was educated by modern/ Western culture. So my family/mother didn’t do Koromogae. So I didn’t know about it.

I like the way, which I wear whatever I want.

Sky is a limit in 2012

Now it’s in 2012.

Dragon year starts on Feb.4 2012 in Chinese astrology.

In Chinese astrology the dragon is the only animal of the Chinese zodiac year that is not real, was seen as a powerful almighty king because it was made up of different parts of animals such as a tiger, fish, snake and an eagle.

The Chinese dragon was not seen as a threatening evil being as we do in the west – rather a symbol of power, superiority and rule.

Sky is a Limit

My hope is everybody believes that “Sky’s the limit”.

I painted this painting “A Sky is a Limit, Baby” because we are all having hard times, especially young people.

They hatched and now they should fly to the height of their vision and hope, don’t you think?

We got that chance when we were young. I still want to do more things and I think you do, too. I realize that getting older, I do things much slower.

But still, Sky’s the limit.
