I already missed warm air by the ocean and flowers carpet.

Clouds over Ford House Field
This scene was at Ford House Field in Mendocino Village CA.
Ford House is a museum. They have information of Mendocino Village history.
I love the model, which is village of Mendocino scene, when their industry was logging for over 100 years ago.
There are picnic tables on this field. So you can enjoy food & wine or some as watching waves and breezing fresh air.
In July every year, they put biiiiiiiiig white tent on this field and play music days and nights for a week. It’s a neat event. They invite musicians from all over countries to play music in the tent.
I love this exciting scene. Clouds and waves. Yahoo!
Quiet Moment
This scene is Jug Handle State Park.
It was a beautiful sunny morning.
Do you feel mild sensuous breezes?
“He would be a poet who could impress the winds and streams into service, to speak for him.†Henry David Thoreau
Yes, it is a big challenge for landscape/seascape painters to translate the air into paint.
Foggy Morning
This is Jug Handle State Park. It was foggy morning.
I exaggerated colors a little. It came out nice.
Now in Santa Rosa, morning and night get cold. Leaves are turning yellow and reddish. A lot of acorns are on ground.
This painting’s colors remind me autumn colors.
I’m looking forward beautiful autumn colors everywhere in Santa Rosa soon.
Time Goes By
This scene is at Jug Handle Beach. But it can be anywhere.
I took one week to complete this painting.
When I almost finished this painting, I wanted some movement in this painting.
During my morning walk, it was thick foggy morning in Santa Rosa CA, I saw clouds were crossing in front of the sun. The sun was covered with fog, but there is round light.
When I got home I finished this painting with the clouds passing in front of the sun.
I just found a book:
Slowly, slowly, slowly said the Sloth
By Eric Carle
I love children’s books with good story & ilustration. Eric Carle is one of my favor illustrator & author of children’s book. When my old son was little, his favor book was “ The Very Hungry Caterpillar†by him. Now his son who is almost four year old, has the book.
Â
Anyway Eric Carle wrote on back of the book †Slowly, slowly, slowly said the Slothâ€:
Â
“Why are we always in a hurry?
Rush. Rush. Rush.
We scurry from here and there.
Quick! Click!—— we watch TV. We eat fast food.
Everyone tells us make it snappy!
Hurry up! Time is flying! Step on it!
There’s so little time just to be with friends.
to watch a sunset or graze at a star-filled sky.
Ah. What we could learn——-even if just a little from the gentle sloth who slowly, slowly, slowly craws along a branch of a tree. Eats a little, sleep a lot, and lives in peace.â€
I love to watch. That’s why I’m enjoying painting realism.
During painting, this world time disappears and staring at “Time goes byâ€.
“Time goes by†slowly, gently just like mild sensuous breezes.
A Tree by Ocean
This scene is at Jug Handle State Park.
This tree is the only one on the cliff. I’m curious to know how it sprouted.
It must be hard to grow, because there is no protection.
It’s amazing to me.
I painted the tree “633. One tree left” in Oil before.
Now I painted the tree close up in watercolor.
I love the composition, movement of the painting and colors vey much.
What do you think?
Morning Walk
Sunny Morning at Jug Handle
It was gorgeous sunny morning at Jug Handle State Park.
I was so fascinated looking at waves were coming going.
I was on the cliff and looking down the beach.
The waves were look like fine white laces, moving on surface of water, disappeared and appeared.
Shadows were glowing blue.
What a cheerful morning
Under the Apple Tree
This scene is at a private garden on Mendocino Coast. It was end of the last month, in August.
In California we have dry season and rainy season.
In Japan we have rain all year. So in summer plants grow and it’s so green.
But in California in summer all weeds, grass die without water. So in summer ground is brown.
I was born and grew up in Japan. After I moved to California, I don’t get used view in summer in California for many years. It was strange to me. But my sons were born and grew up here. So when we visited Japan in summer, they told me, “Mom, it’s so strange, everything is so green here.â€
Anyway gardener of this garden takes care of this garden so well. So every plant are so alive, healthy in the garden.
It was nice warm day. It was unusual in Mendocino.
I really enjoyed painting in the garden.
Pine in Love
This location is Jug Handle Beach again.
I love this composition very much.
This big empty space balances to everything.
It might be Japanese way to think.
I just got a book “Composition†by Arthur Wesly Dow. The first edition was published in 1899.
Back of the book says:Dow’s composition exercised an enormous influence on emerging modern artists of century ago including Georgia O’Keeffe and Charles Sheeler.
They are my favor artists.
I don’t read this book yet.
I was trained “composition†for one year and half  before I got in Musashino Art University. And we continued studying “composition†at the university. So I have good confidence of “compositionâ€.
I took painting class of Bill Martin at the college of Red wood. I respect Bill Martin as a great art instructor and a painter.
After the class I showed my painting, which I painted at my studio, to Bill Martin. He said, “It’s me. This composition wouldn’t work for me.†Then I told myself, “Japanese composition wouldn’t work in this country.â€
Anyway I took the painting to the Galley and it was sold right away. So I thought that somebody likes the composition. It was two decades ago.
Now I found this “Composition†by Arthur Wesley Dow. His composition based on Japanese composition. I’m very curious to read this book.
Back to my painting “Pine in Loveâ€.
Pine tree is symbol of Perpetuate Youth and Longevity in Japan.
And I saw the shape of heart from the earth of this scene.
So I named “Pine in Loveâ€.
Carol who purchased the painting e-mailed me:
Hi Mariko,
It arrived! Â What a wonderful painting. Â I will treasure it. Â Thank you!
Carol
It made my day.
Thanks, Carol
