“Nice painting, but I think it is not Eakins. I searched the museum’s collection and came up with two paintings by Thomas Eakins, but not this one.
I would guess a more recent artist, probably from California.”

And then I got more curious to know the Artist and Title of he painting inside of my painting. So I e-mailed to The San Diego Museum of Art.

597. Going to Main Street Oil painting by Mariko Irie

This is in Mendocino Village CA. Walking down from Ukiah Street we see this view. The road is Heeser Street.

A couple years the tower was leaning more than leaning tower of Pisa. So it was supported by two-by-four. Now it’s fixed, the tower is straight up.

On Mendocino Coast, when it’s sunny, it’s windy a lot of times. I think wind blows fog away, then it gets sunny.

I love old fences.

In Mendocino Village, Mendocino Historic Review Board has a lot of power, so they try to keep everything stay same as two hundreds years ago. Of cause they repaint, put new foundations….

I lived Mendocino for twenty-seven years. I know that it has been changed. But it’s much, much slower than Tokyo. I can say that Mendocino doesn’t change like Tokyo.

They call this part of Mendocino village, Portuguese Flat.

It was windy, so it gave movement to this painting, don’t you think?

595. Old Home Oil painting by Mariko Irie

This house is in Mendocino Village CA.

We lived in this house for five years. It’s over one hundred years old.

The next block is Mendocino Art Center. The next, next house is “Blair House”, which is filmed TV show “Murder she wrote”.

And this house was filmed “Pontiac Moon”, when we were living in.

In front of this house is Heider Field and Post Office. Mendocino village is a tinny village. But we can get everything in walk distance. There are several fine Art galleries. Good restaurants, Preschool, High school, good book store, good markets, hardware store, gas station……

I love this painting, because the house has  good memores. Plus look at this tinny light. It’s lovely, isn’t it?

That day was gorgeous sunny day. It was windy and Mendocino bay was exiting.

584. From Ford House Watercolor painting by Mariko Irie

This scene was looking from the yard of Ford House Museum & Visiter Center in Mendocino Village.

Long time ago, during the movie “Dying Young (1991)” was filmed there; they built a fake water tower. The water tower stayed for a few years. It looked good on the yard. But now it’s gone.

If you have never been to the Ford House, it’s fun to go there. You would learn a history of Mendocino Village.

Clouds and waves are moving. Grass covering ground is shined.

It’s very simple composition and bold. I think that the painting came out successfully. I love it.

579. Spring on Mendocino Coast watercolor by Mariko Irie

So many wild flowers were blooming everywhere on the Mendocino Coast.

By the way, I received a beautiful e-mail from a lady who purchased my painting “Surfing” for father’s day gift for her son:

received the painting this morning—it is BEAUTIFUL and so much more than just a captured moment!

exquisite paintwork…my son will love this—he is a surgeon in new york and misses his nearness to the ocean and the peace it brings him!

583. Rose Garden Watercolor painting by Mariko Irie

This is at Russian River Rose Co. in Healdsburg again.

Now you see mountains far away. It’s located where vineyards are surrounded. So feeling is very spacious.

When I was leaving, I couldn’t leave without having one of Rose plants.

The owner, Jann (I hope that her name is right) showed me around. I purchased: the shape of the rose is very classic one. And when the flowers were small, the center of the flowers is pale pink. That she told me.

When I got home I put by the East entrance. I watched the plant everyday. Then I thought that one of them might bloom the next day. And the next morning, the bud and other ones were gone. I knew that deer ate them.

So now the plant is on the roof, in front of my bedroom window. One of them started to open. It’s so cute. And nice pale pink is the center. I love it.

There are so many kinds of Roses and different flowers as well.

I was attracted to this Iris patch.

I looked this Iris patch. It reminded me Monet’s Iris painting.

I love Iris. Especially this one is so beautiful. Don’t you think so?

 

We went to paint out at Russian River Rose Co. in Healdsburg on May 9^th.

I have never been before. It’s amazing. Roses, roses, roses…..

Neighbors are vineyards. Somebody told me that Healdsburg is Provence

581. Rose World Watercolor painting by Mariko Irie

in U.S. The building is European style. So being there, feeling like being in Europe.

I love roses. I was so overwhelmed by beautiful flowers. The owner, husband was working in the yard. I said to him “This is in Heaven. Isn’t it?” He said, ”It’s a lot of work.” I’m very sure that it is a lot of work.

And he has made Rose Perfume. The special roses for perfume bloom for short time. So this is a time to do.
