This is Mendocino Bay, CA.
The scene is over the bay, you can see Mendocino Main Street.
It was a nice warm day, cute cotton candy clouds were flouting.
Waves were coming and going.
What a relaxing day in Mendocino, isn’t it?
This is in Mendocino Village CA.
It’s a nice field middle of Mendocino Village. There is a cypress tree, water towers and ocean.
Is there any village has a water tower like this besides in Mendocino?
We used to cross this field to get post office.
What a sweet town, isn’t it?
This location is on Ukiah Street Mendocino, CA.
A couple years ago, when I was painting at the location, one lady came up to me.
She told me that she was staying at the house. And she wanted me to paint the house.
At that time I took a photo of this scene.
When I was thinking about my watercolor workshop, I like to show how fun to use masking fluid. So I painted this as a sample.
But I took the painting to the gallery to show. It was sold. The manager told me that the person, who was staying at the house, bought the painting.
Then I should paint other painting using masking fluid for my workshop. It’s fun to play with masking fluid.
I’m having a show “Mariko Irie 2013†at the Northcoast Artists Gallery through September 3rd.
This is the biggest, best of my shows in this year.
January 1st 2013, something happened to my soul. I got great energy for everything. I’m so happy to paint and the energy is kept going.
After I set up my show, I’m so pleased to see what I painted.
Thank you for who could come to my opening. I had a great time with you.
This painting “Spring at Heeser Drive†is in Watercolor.
The location is on Mendocino Headlands, CA.
There is a big parking place. A lot of times, I bring my lunch here and eat as watching ocean, birds flying by…. This view is facing East from the parking.
In spring, there are many kinds of wild flowers. The ground is covered with colorful carpet
I got a comment about my painting “Three Womenâ€. https://blog.mariko-irie.com/2013/03/three-women/
“Nice painting, but I think it is not Eakins. I searched the museum’s collection and came up with two paintings by Thomas Eakins, but not this one.
I would guess a more recent artist, probably from California.”
And then I got more curious to know the Artist and Title of he painting inside of my painting. So I e-mailed to The San Diego Museum of Art.
I got a response:
Hello Mariko,
Here is the title of the painting you were requested:
Ãngel Zárraga

This is in Mendocino Village CA. Walking down from Ukiah Street we see this view. The road is Heeser Street.
A couple years the tower was leaning more than leaning tower of Pisa. So it was supported by two-by-four. Now it’s fixed, the tower is straight up.
On Mendocino Coast, when it’s sunny, it’s windy a lot of times. I think wind blows fog away, then it gets sunny.
I love old fences.
In Mendocino Village, Mendocino Historic Review Board has a lot of power, so they try to keep everything stay same as two hundreds years ago. Of cause they repaint, put new foundations….
I lived Mendocino for twenty-seven years. I know that it has been changed. But it’s much, much slower than Tokyo. I can say that Mendocino doesn’t change like Tokyo.
They call this part of Mendocino village, Portuguese Flat.
It was windy, so it gave movement to this painting, don’t you think?
This house is in Mendocino Village CA.
We lived in this house for five years. It’s over one hundred years old.
The next block is Mendocino Art Center. The next, next house is “Blair Houseâ€, which is filmed TV show “Murder she wroteâ€.
And this house was filmed “Pontiac Moonâ€, when we were living in.
In front of this house is Heider Field and Post Office. Mendocino village is a tinny village. But we can get everything in walk distance. There are several fine Art galleries. Good restaurants, Preschool, High school, good book store, good markets, hardware store, gas station……
I love this painting, because the house has  good memores. Plus look at this tinny light. It’s lovely, isn’t it?
That day was gorgeous sunny day. It was windy and Mendocino bay was exiting.
This scene was looking from the yard of Ford House Museum & Visiter Center in Mendocino Village.
Long time ago, during the movie “Dying Young (1991)†was filmed there; they built a fake water tower. The water tower stayed for a few years. It looked good on the yard. But now it’s gone.
If you have never been to the Ford House, it’s fun to go there. You would learn a history of Mendocino Village.
Clouds and waves are moving. Grass covering ground is shined.
It’s very simple composition and bold. I think that the painting came out successfully. I love it.
What do you think?
My image of “Sunny Roses†was chosen for the poster of Mendocino Coast Garden Tour this year.
I painted this painting “ 315. Sunny Roses†in San Diego. Do you feel a warm sunny day?
The information of the tour: http://www.mendocinoartcenter.org/Garden.html
Mendocino Coast Garden Tour brings you many nice gardens.
I will be at the Headlands Garden as painting from noon to 3pm. I hope to see you there.
It will be on June 22nd.
